I knew I wanted to work in books from pretty much the time I could hold one, and even fancied myself a young authoress as a child—my first “published” works were a spiral-bound collection of poems revising the tags on my Beanie Babies, and a grossly plagiarized retelling of Matilda which I copied out in a bedazzled composition notebook. So after attending the Columbia Publishing Course in 2011 I entered the publishing world as an editor, a role I held for eight years. From 2011 to 2017, I worked at Alfred A. Knopf, where I supported some of the most talented, visionary, and best-selling artists writing today, among them Patti Smith, Cheryl Strayed, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Jane Smiley, A. S. Byatt, debut novelists Weike Wang and Jana Casale, and others. Then the wellness bug hit, and in 2017 I joined The Experiment, where I acquired and edited a range of nonfiction projects, particularly plant-based cookbooks, self-help books, and other wellness narratives, until January 2019.
I now take on select writing and editing projects in a freelance capacity, providing support for authors who have a story to tell but are looking for guidance in how to tell it. Because I believe telling our stories authentically is integral to our ability to live healthy lives and be engaged participants in our communities and with nature, I take great pleasure in a well-crafted sentence, namely as proof of the power that writers have to illuminate the darkest, most unknown parts of our shared experience. Thanks to my wide range of editorial and publishing experience, I am open to working on a variety of subject matters and genres, including literary fiction, narrative nonfiction, memoir, wellness/self-help, and current events. I also offer a range of professional, personalized services at flexible rates to meet your project’s needs:
- Macro- and micro-editing
- Proposal writing and development
- Co-writing and ghost writing
- Publishing consultations—the submission process, finding an agent, alternative publishing solutions
