Ayurveda, the ancient medical science rooted in India, views all beings as part of nature, including us humans. This means that as the seasons change in their qualities and personalities—dry and cold autumn, damp and heavy spring, and hot and sharp summer—we experience similar changes in how we feel inside and out. Summer is the season dominated by the pitta dosha, which is responsible for all matters of digestion and transformation in our bodies and in the universe. We see this at play during the summer months as the longer, hotter days encourage activity and exploration. Balanced pitta keeps us focused, organized, and hungry—but when pitta gets too intense, we might experience irritability, inflammation, and an insatiable appetite for food and life.
In this workshop, we’ll explore simple ways to keep pitta in check this summer so you can enjoy all the fun you want without getting burned—literally and figuratively. Incorporating the qualities of coolness, spaciousness, and groundedness that balance pitta, the foods, self-care practices, and other lifestyle tips you’ll come away with will equip you with strategies to prevent and find relief from common imbalances in body and mind during the pitta season of the year, as well as other periods or moments when pitta might be elevated, such as during stress, puberty, menopause, and more. You’ll also go home with two delicious Ayurvedic treats—a pitta balancing tea and spice blend—that we will prepare together as a group and infuse with healing energy. No prior knowledge of Ayurveda is needed, so whether you’re new to the practice or more experienced, you’ll find refreshing ways to keep your cool all summer long.
