Midwinter Rest & Reset 2023

Midwinter Rest & Reset 2023

January 26-30, 2023

I don’t do cleanses. And yet, my body—the miraculous thing that it is—is always cleansing all on its own, through the natural processes of detoxification and digestion it’s designed to do to stay alive. In Ayurveda, facilitating the process of cleansing ideally happens on a daily basis, through mindful eating and sense-care, which leaves us feeling energized, rested, and enthusiastic for life. But given the many ways our world and lives may not be ideal, sometimes we need a little help when the undigested parts of life start to accumulate.

Traditionally, Ayurvedic resets take place at the juncture of the seasons, called rtu sandhi in Sanskrit. Fall and spring (September/October and March/April, roughly) are the most common and potent seasons for resetting, but we also have seasons of our lives that deserve the same care and attention. One such season is the arrival of the new year in the Western calendar, when we come down off the ride of the holiday season and take stock of where we are.

Like a New Year’s Resolution, taking a few days for a mental and physical reset can radically shift your perspective on where you are in your life’s trajectory—and without the typical trappings of guilt and shame when you inevitably need to shift or drop your original goal. Instead, an Ayurvedic seasonal reset can provide you with a blank canvas upon which to decide, with agency and compassion, what foods, activities, and practices would serve you best in this moment by bringing balance to the whole system. When we gain facility to make those moment-to-moment adjustments to our routines, working with the flow of nature rather than trying to control it, we find ourselves more resilient to life’s ups and downs. We can resolve every day, in every breath, to love ourselves unconditionally, which is Ayurveda’s secret to longevity, beauty, and peace.

Join me this January for an abbreviated, but potent, Midwinter Rest & Reset. We’ll gather in community to share a simplified diet, stress management practices, yoga, meditation, pranayama, and sense-care, so you can recover from the toll of the holidays while also cultivating a strong foundation of digestive health and immunity to get you through the next stretch of winter. You’ll come away with tools for deep relaxation and nourishment that you can turn to in any seasonal transition of your life. Together, we will practice letting go of what no longer serves us and returning to a place in our bodies that feels like home.
